TELSTRA media boss Rick Ellis has thrown down the gauntlet to rivals in the IPTV and TV sector, saying the telecommunications giant wants to be the leader in the coming "multi-screen world".
Telstra is looking to offer different types of online video entertainment to multiple screens by Christmas, including advertising-supported video, pay-per-view video on demand, subscription video on demand and linear channels. "Over the next few months, we will bring to market further options, extending access beyond TV to the multi-screen environment in the same way that Foxtel has done with Go," Mr Ellis told a trans-Tasman business lunch this month.
Earlier this year, Mr Ellis said he was looking to strike content agreements with TV networks to offer their content on its IPTV service.
Last month, however, Nine and Seven flagged the possibility of collaborating with each other on an internet-delivered, video-on-demand service.
Foxtel, which has launched its own cheaper IPTV product, has also flagged its interest in being involved.
